INDONESIAN STANDARDS: SNI AND IT'S REGULATORY FRAMEWORK

Sometimes, the standards of products, processes, and systems in Indonesia may appear random. Indonesian National Standards, abbreviated as SNI, is an institution that oversees the quality, safety, and regulatory compliance of various industries. Formulated by Technical Committees and determined by the National Standardization Body (BSN) Badan Standardisasi Nasional and under the Ministry of Industry https://bspjijakarta.kemenperin.go.id/

Products used in building and construction that are regulated by SNI include steel, insulating materials, electrical cables, glass, water pipes, water tanks, Portland cement, steel wire rope, AAC Block and ceramic tiles.

SNI maintains affiliations with prominent international standards organizations, notably the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). This collaboration ensures alignment with global best practices and facilitates international trade, allowing Indonesian businesses to compete on a global scale while upholding local standards.

This integration with international standards brings several advantages. Firstly, it promotes consistency, integration, and compatibility between Indonesian standards and those recognized worldwide. Secondly, it enables Indonesian industries to benchmark against global norms, driving continuous improvement and innovation. Aligning SNI with international counterparts fosters trust and confidence in Indonesian products and services, both domestically and internationally.
